Minat baca masyarakat Indonesia, menurut saya masih bisa dibilang lemah. Hal ini bisa jadi dikarenakan bagi sebagian besar orang, buku masih termasuk barang "mewah" sementara untuk memenuhi kebutuhan hidup sehari-hari saja masih terasa berat. Ditambah lagi, berita kenaikan BBM saja sudah memicu kenaikan harga bahan2 pokok, kebayang kan betapa menjulangnya harga-harga nanti kalau BBM beneran naik, dijamin makin bye bye byee sama yang namanya buku.
Di samping itu, tidak bisa dipungkiri bahwa maraknya gadget dalam beragam bentuk itu membuat orang menjadi semakin berpaling dari yang namanya membaca buku. Kaum ber-gadget sibuk wara wiri di berbagai jejaring sosial, sekedar bersosialisasi dengan rekan2 yang memang dikenalnya di dunia nyata ataupun dengan mereka yang sama sekali belum pernah bertatap muka.
Selain jejaring sosial, godaan berikut datang dari game2, baik game online maupun game dari berbagai perangkat elektronik semisal PSP, DS, Wii, dll. Hari gini, lebih mudah menemukan anak2 yang asyik berkutat dengan peralatan elektronik mereka dibanding melihat mereka duduk tenang sambil membaca buku.
Anak2 yang gemar baca sekalipun kebanyakan mentoknya di komik dan merasa pusing melihat rentetan teks tanpa gambar, hmm.. apa kabar dunia yaa kalau anak2 tidak lagi suka membaca?
Bagaimana cara menumbuhkan minat baca?
Pertama, perpustakaan lokal harus diaktifkan, sediakan beragam buku dari berbagai genre untuk usia yang variatif agar anak usia 10 tahun ke bawah misalnya, tidak "terpaksa" membaca novel dewasa hanya karena tidak tersedianya buku anak yang bisa dibacanya! Di samping itu, penting menciptakan suasana perpustakaan yang nyaman dan membuat para pembaca betah menghabiskan waktu berlama-lama melahap buku demi buku. Mungkin bisa juga diadakan acara interaktif tiap akhir pekannya, semisal acara membaca buku bersama, atau lomba membaca puisi, atau lomba2 lain dengan hadiah yang menarik tentunya, tarik sponsor untuk mendukung program di perpustakaan itu agar makin banyak yang baca buku :D
Kedua, sekolah juga bisa berperan banyak dalam menumbuhkan minat baca. Misalkan dengan memasukkan program membaca buku dalam agenda bulanan di mana setiap siswa diwajibkan membaca 1 buku dan menyelesaikannya dalam waktu sebulan, mereka bebas memilih buku apapun yang ingin mereka baca. Dan tak henti sampai di situ, para siswa juga harus membuat laporan sehubungan dengan buku yang telah mereka baca, semisal membuat resensi ataupun membuat plus minus dari buku yang dibaca, atau bisa juga penjabaran karakter2 dalam buku tersebut berikut alasan yang mendukung kenapa siswa itu suka ataupun benci dari tokoh yang dimaksud. Dengan cara ini, tidak hanya merangsang minat membaca, tapi juga melatih para siswa untuk belajar kritis terhadap bacaan yang mereka masukkan ke dalam otak :p
Ketiga, penerbit seperti Leutika ini sebenernya bisa aja berperan besar, kalau memang niat, ahahahaa.. bagaimana caranya? Dengan menekan margin keuntungan yang diperoleh dari penjualan buku. Kalau memasukkan buku lewat distributor mungkin terasa berat juga ya karena distributor meminta porsi yang lumayan besar ketika kita menitipkan buku di toko mereka, tapi dengan berjualan online, kalau memang Leutika mau maka tentunya bisa kan menekan jumlah keuntungan agar harga buku yang dijual lebih terjangkau oleh para pembeli. Satu lagii.. cara yang disukai penggila kuis macam saya ini adalahh.. eng ing enngg.. bagi2 voucher belanja donks aww, wakakakakak.. voucher senilai 25 ribu aja udah lumayan besar lhoo and nolong bangets pas mau beli2 buku, jadi merasa bisa beli buku yang diinginkan dengan harga yang masih "pantas", bukan dengan harga di awang2, hihihi.. Ngga percaya? Ironis khan kalau harga buku yang tebalnya ngga sampai 200 halaman, dijual dengan harga 60 ribu, sementara harga yang sama bisa dibelikan beras kualitas yang lumayan minimal 5 kilo! :p
